Women and Children in Need
In the founding vision of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the renewal of society depended on the Christian family, in which the mother, the first educator, had a key role. Blessed Theresa, our foundress, was convinced that this was the only way to change society. Thus, Blessed Theresa chose the Christian education of girls as the vital service our community would offer.
Her life’s work, helping women and children grow to their greatest potential, continues to be a vital part our ministry. We work to empower women to be good mothers; to shape the social, economic, and political policies of the country; and to follow careers in the secular or religious field.
Today, we minister to women and children in a variety of ways and settings, which include several transitional housing programs that provide short-term housing as well as assistance in meeting basic needs and accessing area social services.
