Sisters publish Land Ethic Statement

As School Sisters of Notre Dame, we seek justice, educate for peace and care for creation rooted in a profound belief that all life is sacred. We believe God is the creator of life, and all forms of life are interconnected and interrelated with one another and with God.

This philosophy guides one’s actions when utilizing and sustaining land and all that is related: water, plants, animals, all creatures of Earth. It states the principles and ideas on actions to carry out those principles.

Sisters engaged in an educational process to understand, own and implement a Land Ethic Statement. A Task Force of representatives from each geographic area was appointed to lead the two-year effort. The Land Ethic Statement was approved by the Provincial Assembly on June 29, 2014.

We are particularly aware of this Year of Mercy. In declaring the holy year, Pope Francis said, “The call of Jesus pushes each of us to never stop at the surface of things, especially when we are dealing with a person. We are called to look beyond, to focus on the heart to see of how much generosity everyone is capable.”
