Experience Together

‘I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’

You are invited to participate in a program offering a simulation experience of what individuals and families face as immigrants.

The “Walk in our Shoes” program will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. at the School Sisters of Notre Dame, 13105 Watertown Plank Road, Elm Grove, Wisconsin.

Mother and Child - Image from morguefile.comThe purpose of “Walk in our Shoes” is to educate participants about the experience of immigrants and the need for immigration reform, and to foster a welcoming of immigrants in our communities. Though the presentation largely focuses on the experience of Latino immigrants, the lessons translate to other immigrants and refugees.

A brief discussion will address some of the common attitudes and prejudices towards Syrian, Muslim and other immigrant groups. Also, concrete ideas will be shared about what we can do in our own lives to heed Jesus’ call to “welcome the stranger.”

The event is sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame North American Immigration Collaborative. The program/experience was developed by ESTHER, a faith-based social justice organization in Appleton, Wisconsin and will be facilitated by a team from ESTHER.

How can we offer welcome and support to the strangers among us?
