Art and Music
The fine arts have had a home at Good Counsel since its foundation. Music and art were an important part of the curriculum of the Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Today in schools staffed by sisters from the Mankato Province, music, visual art, poetry and drama continue to be a part of the daily schedule.Music is an important part of life on the hill. The Chapel of Our Lady of Good Counsel has been the site of many concerts, some featuring the 1877 Johnson and Son Organ, Opus 499. The liturgical choir and handbell choir add meaning and beauty to our Masses. Many of our sisters are accomplished musicians and music teachers.
Our sisters are encouraged to pursue the creative arts. A wide variety of mediums are practiced: acrylics, watercolor, illustration, mosaic, stained glass, wood carving and interior design are just some of the means of creative expression.
