Meet Our Featured VIP
The School Sisters of Notre Dame invite those in all walks of life to participate in a variety of ways in our mission and ministries. These Very Important People include associates, employees, discerners, Good Counsel alumnae, volunteers, and donors. Visit us often, as a new VIP will be featured regularly. Hopefully this "snapshot" will help you learn a bit more about the special people that contribute to life on "the hill." Meet Edith
By +Lois Wickenhauser, SSND
Adjusting from life in Louisville, Kentucky, to Mankato, Minnesota, requires a healthy portion of flexibility. But Edith Murilla nurtured that quality and has been applying it for 28 years in her service at the Hill.
Edith persevered through it all, and she is now employed full-time cleaning the second floor of Notre Dame Hall.
She chuckled as she observed that often she is addressed as “Sister Edith,” and appropriately so, as she has been sister to so many over the years. In addition to treasuring the friendships she has formed, Edith values the opportunities for prayer as she has adoration time after work hours on Fridays. “With a large family I have many situations to pray for and sometimes God doesn’t seem to be listening,” so I ask “what’s happening to all my prayers?” She recalls St. Monica’s penchant for patience and goes on praying!
Edith is mother to six girls and two boys, grandmother to 24 and great-grandmother to 15 so when asked what she does in her leisure time she dismissed it with “What leisure time!?”
